Besixdouze | Some eBay auctions (like this Apollo 11 patch) never cease to amaze (and amuse). |
BlueHalo | Maybe the guy who screwed Chris out that Apollo 11 BIG patch and keeps relisting it for $1499.99 can trade with this guy? I saw he was trying to push that patch on Craigslist too. |
David C | Don't do that again, I nearly spilt my coffee! |
Lunar rock nut | Love the description. Short and to the point! |
Panther494 | I have two of those in my collection. If only I'd known they were that valuable, I would have bought five more!!!! This is shocking... Just hope no-one gets caught. |
Beau08 | At least it has free shipping... |
mode1charlie | Wow, what a deal! |
One Big Monkey | Aww - he won't ship to the UK On the subject of dubious eBay sales this one offends me. I had one of those little badges that they've scraped off (until my wife 'tidied' it along with a lot of Christmas rubbish), was cheaper than the cheesy certificate thing they're selling and nowhere was it claimed to be from Apollo 11 and it was not a golden colour. And this Apollo 11 crew patch came up in today's search results! The description is cleverly worded. |
David C | I believe that's the patch referred to in the second post of this thread. |

'Shavings' of a badge that was from an edition of over 20,000 examples produced containing CM-flown metal (maybe a tiny scrap of Kapton foil). That's approaching homeopathic levels of dilution! |
Go4Launch | The original source material was an LM pulley clamp and a CM heatshield bolt. |
Robert Pearlman | It was neither kapton foil or the clamp and bolt combo (as used in the Manned Flight Awareness medals). Nor, for that matter, is the metal necessarily from Apollo 11. The auction in question uses one of the First Footprint pins made by Winco. The flown material in Winco's Apollo products is from an internal command module component, but the mission has never been made public (per NASA's desires). |
Go4Launch | Winco may have melted an MFA medallion for this project; in any event, it is all fairly preposterous as others here have noted... |
Gonzo | And it closed with no bids. Go figure... |
